Stainless Steel Sanitary Tubing

Stainless steel is a popular material choice for Sanitary Tubing applications, stainless steel has a protective oxide layer that can protect against the formation of rust in harsh temperatures, and the surfaces of Sanitary Tubing must be free of lines, grooves, pits, or divots.

Other features and benefits that make stainless steel a good choice for sanitary applications include:

  • Great corrosion resistance
  • Extreme strength
  • Ease of cleaning
  • Low maintenance costs
  • Impermeable surface to prevent contamination
  • Available in various finishes
  • Chemical and bacterial neutrality

Welded Stainless Steel Sanitary Tubing

Food-grade tubing is produced in standard tubing sizes ranging from 1/2 inch to 8 inches in diameter. The product-contact (ID) surface finish is 20 μ-in Ra (0.5 μm), with an outer diameter (OD) of 30 μ-in Ra (0.8 μm) maximum. Surface finishes are measured per ASME/ANSI B46.1, with the profilometer reading at 90 degrees to the major polishing pattern.

Sanitary Tubing Manufacturing

Polished stainless steel sanitary tubing is manufactured in accordance with ASTM A270. Our tubing is made from cold-rolled stainless steel strips whose chemical elements are specially controlled to enhance weldability. The weld bead is cold-worked to a fully finished condition, resulting in a virtually undetectable longitudinal weld. Bright annealing to 1,900°F minimum follows in a controlled atmosphere to preserve maximum structural integrity.

Sanitary stainless steel tubing is offered in serving the biotech, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, water treatment, and extraction industries and with a wide range of sanitary tubing options including polished, unpolished, and pharmaceutical-grade stainless steel tubing.  As a premier sanitary tube supplier, we offer electropolished options that meet ASME BPE standards required for high-purity applications.

Tube Marking

All tubing is printed with size, gauge, alloy, ASTM and ASME specifications, heat number, and date of manufacturing for full traceability.

Testing and Packaging

To ensure the highest surface quality, our sanitary tubing goes beyond the requirements of ASTM A269 and A270 by performing the full battery of ASTM bend and deformation tests required by ASME SA249. The tests, combined with specific raw material requirements, Eddy Current testing at the tube mill, 100% bore scoping prior to mechanical polish, and tighter OD and wall tolerances, allow for a more consistent, superior-quality product.

To assure strict accordance with ASTM A270 and 3A, Sanitary tubing is subjected to extensive reverse bend, reverse flattening, flange, and eddy current testing. After successfully completing testing, tubes are sealed with air-tight end caps and individually packaged in high-quality poly sleeves. Tubes are then packaged in heavy-duty tri-wall boxing. Wood boxes are available for export shipments when specified.
