Mechanical Tubing

Mechanical tubing is manufactured a wide range of grades and sizes in accordance with ASTM A554 and DIN EN 10296-2 specifications. stainless steel with excellent machinability and consistent properties for machinability, standard stainless steel grades include 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321 etc. Mechanical tubing sizes are designed to a specific outside dimension (OD) and “gauge” or wall thickness or by outside dimension (OD) and inside dimension (ID). Mechanical Tubing shapes can be round, square, rectangular and oval.

Mechanical tube is produced to meet specific end use requirements, specifications, tolerances and chemistries. This allows for more specific property uniformity throughout the tube compared to standard pipe or tube. We can be produced to standard specifications when requested, it is often produced to “typical” properties that focus mainly on the yield strength for a precise size and wall thickness. In some applications with severe forming, yield strength may not even be specified.

304 / 304L Stainless Steel Mechanical Tubing

304 grade is a standard 18% chromium, 8% nickel austenitic stainless steel. It’s an all-purpose product with good corrosion resistance and is suitable for a wide variety of applications that require good formability and weldability.  304L stainless steel is a low-carbon alternative to 304. The lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation.

316 grade is a widely used Molybdenum alloyed austenitic stainless steel. 316L is a low-carbon alternative to 316. The lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation.

As Welded Mechanical Tubing

Mechanical tubing is produced from flat stainless steel strip progressively rolled into a finished size and shape according to ASTM A554, The outside weld bead is removed producing a finished product with a smooth surface. As Welded Mechanical tubing have precise dimensions and tight corners, mechanical tubing is produced in round, rectangular, oval, trapezoidal, tear-drop and other specialty shapes in a variety of surface finishes.

ApplicationsApplications from bicycle frames and lawn mower handles to high strength industrial applications demonstrate the versatility of mechanical tubing.  As the end uses are endless, so are the assortment of sizes, shapes and gauges to which this product can be rolled.

Cost Effective

As-welded tube is very cost-effective as the final product is achieved after the rolling cycle.

Versatility

As-welded tube is produced in a multitude of shapes, thicknesses and surface finishes.

Applications

The applications for as-welded are expansive.  As-welded tubing is frequently used in the manufacture of home and office furnishings, auto parts, truck trailers to industrial bracing and scaffolding.

Drawn Over Mandrel Welded Tubing

Drawn Over Mandrel (DOM) is made from stainless steel material, TIG or ERW welded steel tube with all of the flash removed. Tubing is further processed by cold drawing the semi-finished tube through dies and over mandrels simultaneously to achieve the finished dimensions.  tube may also be thermally treated after cold drawing to customize mechanical properties, improve machinability, and enhance toughness.

Improved Yield & Tensile Strengths

It is a cost-effective steel tube with improved yield and tensile strengths, made to exact wall thicknesses and OD to ID tolerances.

Untouched Surface

This process also produces improved superior surface conditions free of oxides and scale, with all trace of the weld seam removed.

Infinite Range of Sizes & Wall Thickness

Steel tube is produced in an almost infinite range of sizes and wall thicknesses.

Minimal Additional Processing

Tube is also easily machined, requiring only a minimal amount of clean up in downstream processes providing significant cost savings.
